DIESEL THEFTS
Please be vigilant and increase surveillance.
Over the weekend there has been 1 attempted and 1 successful diesel theft from companies on the estate.
The thefts amount to several thousand litres of fuel, which is a significant loss in terms of operations as well as profit to these businesses.
Police believe that the stolen diesel is being sold on and are asking people to call them if they are offered diesel cheaply, and from unofficial sources.
Most of these incidents report fuel being siphoned from parked HGVs with thieves also breaking into fenced compounds to steal diesel.
Officers are now encouraging businesses to review the security of their vehicles to help combat the problem of fuel theft and make the following Recommendations:
Secure all vehicles inside buildings when not in use.
Keep fuel levels in vehicle tanks as low as possible.
Regularly review security measures on site, especially physical security such as perimeter fencing and lighting. Companies should consider upgrading their fencing and are reminded that chain link fencing is no more than a boundary marker and unsuitable for any degree of security.
CCTV or alarm systems should be checked daily and serviced regularly. It should be checked daily in daylight and also at night to ensure it is fully serviceable and there are no camera 'blind spots'.
Consider additional security measures such as alarms on tanks and dyeing fuel to deter potential thieves.
Brief staff on a regular basis, encouraging them to be vigilant at all times and report any suspicious activity to police.
Officers are carrying out special patrols on the Industrial area in an effort to catch those responsible for these thefts.
