Local scrap merchants donate old vehicles for firefighter training
Firefighters from Wrexham are thanking a local scrap merchant for their help and support in enabling crews to hone and practice their skills for dealing with road traffic collisions.
Entrec Ltd, who are based on the Wrexham Industrial Estate, provide vehicles free of charge for firefighters on the Bradley Road station to use for exercises involving road traffic collisions.
Wayne Monslow, Watch Manager on Blue Watch, Wrexham explains:
“Crews are able to use the vehicles to go over cutting skills to ensure that they are fully prepared to cut out casualties as quickly as possible in the event of a real emergency.
“Entrec Ltd also allow us to run instructor courses on their premises, providing us with the space and materials needed to train to the highest standard.
“As well as preventative work to educate about fire and road safety, it is essential that the fire and rescue services in Wales have the highest possible standard of equipment to deal with road traffic incidents safely and effectively.
"Our rescues and extrications at road traffic collisions form an integral part of the process of ensuring that the casualties involved receive medical treatment as quickly as possible. The time saved really can mean the difference between life and death.
"Our frontline operational vehicles are equipped with the latest hydraulic cutting equipment, and this, coupled with advanced training for firefighters, enables crews to achieve more rapid and safe extrications at serious collisions involving a whole range of vehicles. Having the opportunity to practice on these vehicles enables us to train our firefighters to the highest level.
“We are extremely grateful to Entrec Ltd for their generosity which is helping to safeguard the lives of those travelling on our roads across the region.”
