Wrexham Industrial Estate & Pentre Maelor Community Policing Team

The Wrexham Industrial Estate and Pentre Maelor Community Policing Team will be carrying out Road Safety Enforcement on the estate for an indefinite period, covering in particular the following priorities:

* SPEEDING.
* USE OF MOBILE PHONES WHILE DRIVING.
* SEAT BELTS.

FACT: Speeding over the limit will cost you at least 3 points on your license and a £60.00p fine.
FACT: Using a mobile phone while driving will cost you 3 points on yours license and a £60.00p fine.
FACT: Not wearing a seat belt as a driver or passenger will cost you a £30.00p fine.
FACT: If you accumulate 12 or more points you will lose your license.
FACT: More than two thirds of all collisions in which people are killed or seriously injured happened on roads where the speed limit is 40 MPH or less.
FACT: The speed limit on Wrexham Industrial Estate is 40 MPH.
FACT: Speeding contributes to 40,000 serious injuries and 1000 deaths a year.
FACT: Speeding is a contributory factor in over 30% of collisions.
FACT: Wearing a seat belt halves your chance of being seriously injured or hurt in a collision.
FACT: An unrestrained passenger in the back of your car that is involved in a collision at just 30 MPH, will hit the back of your seat with a force between 30 and 60 times your own body weight.
FACT: Studies estimate that the use of seat belts by back seat passengers would prevent 1 in 6 deaths of front seat passengers.
FACT: Around 34,000 people a year are killed or seriously injured in road traffic collisions, and statistics show 1 in 5 newly qualified drivers will have a collision within a year.


MYTHS: Lorry drivers and van drivers don't have to wear seat belts. With a few exceptions every one has to wear a seat belt, some of the exemptions are:

1. A licensed taxi
2. A private hire vehicle (Only while they have a fare paying passenger).
3. Someone in possession of a medical exemption certificate.
4. A delivery driver carrying out multiple drop offs or pick ups, e.g. milk delivery, postman etc. NB: The distance between drops or pick ups has to be less than 50 meters'.
5, While reversing.
6. Some vehicles that were not constructed with seat belts.
