How myths can leave you wide open to Cyber attack
You are invited to attend a special breakfast briefing designed to inform North East Wales businesses about the serious threats of e-Crime.
The event at the Rossett Hall Hotel, Wrexham on 17th March will show senior managers and company owners from across the region how believing myths about online threats can prove highly damaging for their enterprises.
With breaches of IT security reaching record levels worldwide in 2008, small and medium sized enterprises in North East Wales will be given key facts about the threats they face and some highly practical advice on how to keep their computer systems secure and their businesses running.
Principal speaker for the event, which runs from 8am – 10.30am, will be ICT security expert Andrew Parsonage, who is Principal Consultant of information systems consultancy Mican Limited.
His presentation entitled “The Six Myths of Information Security” will highlight damaging misconceptions about e-Crime which are often held by small firms. This will include beliefs that smaller companies are unlikely to be targeted, that most threats come from outside the firm and that anti-virus software provides complete protection against attack.
The event is part of Wales’ UK-leading e-Crime Strategy and it will provide an opportunity for you to meet Andrea Barnard, the new e-Crime business liaison officer for North Wales Police. Her role is to provide specialist support to the police in identifying and detecting e-Crime affecting business in the region and to advise firms like yours on ICT security.
Each firm attending the event will receive a free Internet security software package to protect their computer systems from viruses and other malware.
The breakfast event will conclude with a workshop during which you can meet other local businesses to share experiences and work together on practical solutions to the e-Crime challenges you face.
The event is being staged by the Welsh Assembly Government e-Crime team in association Wrexham Council and is supported by the European Regional Development Fund.
Places are very limited so we’d advise you to make an immediate booking if you want to attend. To register for the event please visit www.ecrimewales.com/events or call 029 2036 8210.
