SECURITY FORUM AT WREXHAM INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

An initiative aimed at keeping businesses on the Wrexham Industrial Estate secure has been revived and revamped!

The Security Forum has a new plan and has been given a cash boost of £1,500 by the Home Office, via the Wrexham Joint Action Group, for new batteries for the radios that were purchased when the scheme originally got off the ground seven years ago.

The recent re-vamp of the scheme is down to the good work undertaken by Constable's Pete Barrett and Bob Powell, who are both from the Wrexham North Policing Team, based on Wrexham Industrial Estate and Rebecca Morgan who is the estate's business co-coordinator all saw the value in such a forum.

In a bid to make the scheme even more efficient only companies with 24 hour security cover have been given the use of a radio, and between all involved provide a 24 hour link to businesses on the estate, as well as a 24 hour contact with Wrexham Councils CCTV Operators.
The key aims of the forum are to:

• Promote and increase safety of the members and the public

• Reduce the level of actual and perceived crime, thus improving the quality of life for residents living in the vicinity of the estate (Pentre Maelor) and businesses.

• Improve communication between members.

• Regulate the management of the RadioLink system.

“We’ve already had a positive response to the scheme, despite it only running for a few weeks,” said Constable Barrett. “There are already examples where it has been used to highlight vehicles and persons that have been seen acting suspiciously in the area. All involved in the scheme were able to keep their ears and eyes on the movements and put fellow businesses on their guard.”
To date, meetings of those involved in the scheme have been held and in turn, members will be given additional information and skills in certain areas such as security and crime prevention.
