Exopack Advanced Coatings - a Division of Exopack Holding Corp. celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year at its European site.

Exopack Advanced Coatings has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a small production facility in Wrexham in 1968.

When the company was founded its sole service was specialised contract coatings, and the electronics industry provided the majority of the company turnover. Today, Exopack Advanced Coatings has development and manufacturing in the UK and in Matthews N C USA. The UK facility employs 130 people and its customer portfolio has widened far beyond the electronics industry. Exopack Advanced Coatings now focuses on the medical, optical, security, conductives and printing markets. The range of services offered also extends beyond its origins in electronics . The company now offers branded products, proprietary products developed under partnership, and OEM labelled products. Over the years, Exopack Advanced Coatings has built highly valued long-term partnerships with many companies worldwide.

The evolution of Exopack Advanced Coatings has seen heavier investment in its own products. After 20 years of service, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Mark Chappell has witnessed this change firsthand. ‘In the beginning our business was predominantly contract coating for the electronics market. But today, that accounts for a minimum part of our European business, the rest comes from our own products and technologies. By understanding key markets and investing more in product development, we can offer a quicker, more cost effective solution to our customers.’

With its ground-breaking technology, Exopack Advanced Coatings has played an intrinsic role in the early development of many renowned technologies, such as breathable wound dressings and hard coated films for product applications ranging from sunglasses to touch screens. Exopack Advanced Coatings has also been a port of call for the altogether more unusual requests, such as helping minimize the ice development on helicopter blades.

Moving forward, Exopack Advanced Coatings has big plans in place for the next forty years and beyond. The company is currently investing heavily in the North Wales site with the backing of its new owner Exopack Holdings Corp. It is also discussing the option of opening a distribution facility in mainland China, to cater for its customers in the Far East. With further investment Exopack AC is also exploring growth strategies for the medical market, where its inspire™ product has been one of Exopack AC’s biggest success stories.
