PRINCESS ROYAL TO OPEN NEW MANUFACTURING CENTRE IN WREXHAM
IMC, Europe's leading manufacturer of specialist kitchen and bar equipment is celebrating its 101st anniversary, and HRH Princess Anne will officially open its new centre at Wrexham Industrial Estate on Monday, 8th October.
Tim Tindle, IMC’s Managing Director said, “It is a great honour for IMC to host a visit from the Princess Royal, everyone throughout the company is looking forward to this memorable day”
Over the past two years IMC has re-located and consolidated its production facilities, sales operation, design and head office into one purpose-built 60,000sq ft facility on the Wrexham Industrial Estate creating more than 80 jobs for the region, and forging links with many local suppliers. During this period of upheaval IMC has and achieved growth of 14%. “All of our staff, including those who relocated with us, have worked hard towards the success of IMC, and this visit from the Princess Royal is a further landmark in our company’s history,” added Tim Tindle.
The itinerary for the visit includes an office and factory tour, the Princess Royal meeting IMC employees and a plaque unveiling (the plaque will be made out of slate, specially commissioned from North Wales).
As the Patron of the prestigious Butler Trust, the Princess Royal will also be shown IMC’s pioneering new food waste disposal system, which extracts liquid from waste food, reducing the volume by 80% to help companies cut waste disposal costs and councils to meet landfill targets. The system has been trialled over the last couple of years at HMP Morton Hall in Lincolnshire, where the system is combined with an in-vessel composter. The incredible results led to the prison receiving the Butler Trust’s ‘Greening and Development’ award from the Princess Royal earlier this year.
IMC’s principle business is supplying under bar systems and back bar refrigeration to bars and restaurants, together with vegetable preparation and waste disposal equipment to professional catering operations. With a turnover of £9 million, IMC also exports nearly 40% of it’s production to over 50 countries worldwide and its equipment can be found in all sizes of establishments ranging from the local pub to Conran restaurants and the Ritz Hotel, Paris; in fish and chips shops, high street bars as well as in the newly refurbished Ascot racecourse and Manchester United Football Club hospitality suites.
Its business was founded on potato peelers and silver burnishers in the early part of the 20th century and the in the 1950’s introduced waste disposers to the British and European markets. This commitment to design and innovation continued into the 1980’s with the company introducing stainless steel bar systems to the European bar market, and more recently with the launch of the new food waste disposal system.
“As a business we have enjoyed great success since moving here, and had the fortune of attracting many talented and skilled employees from Wrexham and the surrounding areas, including North Wales, Chester, Oswestry, Liverpool and Shrewsbury to name a few, we have also moved a lot of our supply contracts to good, modern, local suppliers. Communications to the rest of the UK and globally are excellent. Wrexham is a great place in which to base our business for the 21st Century.
