NOTICE FROM WREXHAM INDUSTRIAL ESTATE CO-ORDINATION UNIT POLICE.
UK registered vehicles insured in an another EU State. It has been brought to our attention this appears to be an issue which is becoming more commonplace.
EU citizens working in the UK are purchasing a UK registered car and then insuring that car for use on our roads but through an insurance company in their home country.
The Road Traffic Act 1988 states that UK registered vehicles must have insurance from an authorised insurer. This means the company must be registered with the Motor Insurance Bureau.
Enquiries with the Department For Transport reveal only UK companies can be registered with the Motor Insurance Board.
Therefore, if a UK registered vehicle does not have UK insurance that vehicle is not insured.
This does not affect Non-UK vehicles temporarily brought into the UK. They may be used on our roads if they have an insurance card from their home country.
